There's a place for everything in Franklin County.

Lead Acid Batteries:

State law banned lead acid batteries from landfill disposal on January 1, 1995. Lead acid batteries can be disposed of at the Crown Battery Company and at all locations of Parts America, AutoZone, and BP ProCare. Residents can also take their discarded lead acid batteries to the Solid Waste Authority Transfer Station scale houses located at 4260 Morse Rd., 1550 Georgesville Rd., and 2500 Jackson Pike, where they'll receive $1 for their efforts along with the assurance the batteries will be disposed of correctly.

Appliances:

On July 27, 1992, the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio Sanitary Landfill began segregating and recycling appliances. An additional disposal fee is charged to cover the extra labor and recycling costs. Residents can take their unwanted appliances directly to Central City Auto Parts (276-9617) or Bargain House (279-6416). Pick-up service is available for a fee.

Tires:

Millions of used tires are discarded by county residents each year. State law prohibits the disposal of whole tires as of January 1, 1993 and shredded tires after January 1, 1995. At this time, the only authorized tire dispoal facility is Liberty Tire, 3041 Jackson Pike (871-8097).

Recycling:

Most of the residents in Franklin county have access to drop-off or curbside recycling programs; the Authority is working closely with the remainder to implement area programs. For information about what types of recyclables are collected in your area, contact your community directly. The City of Columbus provides choices to Columbus residents for recycling and yard waste disposal.
